How I became a Watercolour Painter
I have always been astounded by the beauty of the countryside, the quaint little villages, the imposing mountains, serene valleys, rugged beaches turbulent rivers and seas, that one can encounter whilst touring around this beautiful country of Britain. When coming across scenery like I mention above, I have always been filled with the desire to capture certain moments, not on camera, but with paints and brushes, but thought that this "talent" had by-passed me, and that I would never be able to capture the beauty that I saw, and do it true justice. Two Years ago, I discovered my local community centre held watercolour painting classes, and I decided to go along and give it a try I was truly amazed at what I was able to produce, and my only regret is I didn't do it sooner. I have learnt many things but the most important lesson is Never to say NEVER!! Anything is possible, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and art is about pleasing yourself, if others enjoy what you produce, that is a bonus, if they don't then don't worry, you are the important one, and you only have yourself to please. Everyday I learn something new, or discover a new technique, I don't think I will ever stop learning, because watercolour paint is such a fascinating medium,it is so versatile, so magical, in its ability to produce different effects, it can be either exciting or scary, but never dull. I am sure I can create whatever effect I want with watercolour paints, I just need to explore and experiment further, I cannot see an end to the possibilities.
I don't paint watercolours to sell, I don't paint watercolours to orders, I paint watercolours because the subject appeals to me, and because I enjoy it, if I sell a picture, I feel good that someone appreciates my work, but that is not why I do it. Every watercolour painting I produce is a thousand times better than I ever thought possible, and that in itself is enough for me.
